October is Here

Summer is over, and October brings shorter rides and a new rhythm on the trails. This post reflects on the shift from long adventure days to quick loops, and looks ahead to some favorite fall rides and night-riding spots in the Boise foothills.

October is Here

Every year October feels like the official line in the dirt, summer is over and fall has rolled in whether I'm ready or not. Those long summer days where it seemed like there was always enough light for adding to my rides are gone. The air is crispy, the riding gear is layered, and the rides these days feel like they have a sense of urgency attached to them.

This time of year shifts my riding habits. Instead of those big all-day adventures, I find myself chasing the evening sun, sneaking in a loop before the sun drops below the horizon, or waiting for the midday sun on the weekend for a ride. It's funny how quickly the focus changes from packing extra snacks because I know I may wander off the planned route to making sure I have my lights charged for the ride back to the rig.

The change in the season is something that I love about Boise. The shorter rides remind me that fun is not measured in miles or elevation gains. A quick ride on a short loop can be just as satisfying as a whole day in the hills. Especially when the dirt is tacky and golden hour arrives sooner than it did last month.

In the coming weeks I will be highlighting some of my favorite fall rides and a few spots in the foothills that are perfect loops for night rides.
Winter Night Rides are right around the corner.

Fall rides provide their own kind of Boise magic. The trails feel quieter, the colors are popping, and every ride feels like it has a little extra meaning to it because we all know winter is right around the corner. That rhythm of the seasons is part of what makes mountain biking so special around Boise. We get to adapt, shift our mindset, and find new ways to enjoy the same trails we've been riding all year.

Looking forward to exploring the fall vibes with y'all.

Forever Two Wheels.
