My Go to 30 Minute Workout Route in the Boise Foothills

One of my favorite quick rides in the Boise Foothills starts at the Hulls Gulch Learning Center on 8th Street. What I like about this loop is the balance. Kestrel gives you enough climbing to get a decent workout in, Crestline has one punchy climb and then gives you a chance to lower your heart rate, and then you get to finish with some fun descending on Red Cliffs before rolling back into the parking lot.
The data
- Distance: 3.29 miles
- Elevation: ~450 feet
- Ride time: Under 30 minutes
- Difficulty: Beginner - Intermediate.
Short, punchy, and fun

Route
From the parking lot, the ride goes straight onto Kestrel, climbs up to Crestline, connects to Red Cliffs, and drops you right back where you started.
Kestrel (up) - 0.80 miles - 282 feet
Crestline (up) - 0.54 miles - 153 feet
Red Cliffs (down) - 1.26 - 26 feet

For me, this is the perfect after-work ride. It's short enough that I don't have to commit my entire evening to it, but 450 feet of climbing in 1.5 miles is enough to feel like I actually did something. Later in the year when the cardio is established you can loop it or ride up to Lower Hulls Gulch. We'll cover that route soon.
If you're looking for a quick classic Boise trails ride, give this loop a shot.
