Boise MTB Mini-Doc

Boise MTB Mini-Doc

Since I started mountain biking, I’ve always dreamed of making a mini-documentary about riding in Boise. There’s something truly special about the trails here, not to mention the community in the Treasure Valley. I can’t speak for other cities, so maybe it’s just my hometown pride talking—but Boise’s outdoor culture, its people, and of course, the mountain biking scene hold a certain magic that I can’t help but want to share.

Recently, I’ve taken the plunge and started the early stages of creating that mini-documentary. You may have noticed that my blog posts slowed down—definitely not the plan! But I have this habit of getting hyper-fixated on things until I find the next project to focus on. Over the summer, that was writing blogs and building an index of trails for new riders (which I’m still working on, by the way). As I was out snapping photos for those posts, my love for filmmaking was reignited, and suddenly I couldn’t stop thinking about how awesome a mini-documentary could be.

I’ve written out my ideas and decided to keep things small-scale, focusing solely on the Boise Foothills for this first part. And here’s the kicker—I’ll be filming the whole thing on my iPhone. In filmmaking, I’ve found that limitations often fuel creativity. Without bulky, heavy gear, I can ride light, move quickly, and capture footage on the fly. It’s amazing how much freedom that gives me to focus on telling the story of what makes these trails and this community so unique.

I’ve shared a few frames from the project here, and I hope you all enjoy the sneak peek. My goal is to release the first part of the documentary this fall or winter. As the weather cools, I’m squeezing in as many rides as possible to gather footage, and then come November, I’ll dive into editing and uncover the story I want to tell.

Don’t worry, I’ll be back to posting ride guides next week! With October on the horizon, it’s the perfect time to showcase trails that really shine during the fall, with all the leaves changing and the season in full swing. Thanks for sticking with me as I jump from one project to the next—I can’t wait to share this journey with you!
