5 Quick Tips to Make Your MTB Rides More Fun

Mountain biking is all about having a blast on two wheels, but sometimes it’s the little things that can take a ride from “good” to “legendary.” Whether you’re a seasoned shredder or a fresh-faced newbie, these tips are here to help you squeeze a little more fun out of your next adventure. Let’s dive in!

Eastside Adventures are always better with friends.

1. Ride with Friends (or Make New Ones on the Trail)

Riding solo is great for clearing the mind, but there’s something magical about hitting the trails with a buddy or two. Whether it’s friendly competition or just someone to laugh with when you both inevitably go off track, having company adds a whole new layer of fun. Don’t have a riding crew? No problem—chat up fellow riders at the trailhead or join a group ride.

2. Session a Feature

Instead of always aiming for a non-stop run down the trail, take some time to session a feature that catches your eye. Recently, I went up Bob’s Trail just to play around on some of the rock features, and I was amazed at all the different lines I hadn’t noticed before. When you allow yourself to session a feature, you get a chance to explore different approaches and ways of overcoming an obstacle. So, pick a rock drop, berm, or jump, and hit it a few times. It’s a great way to boost your skills and mix up your ride.

Sure, we all have our go-to trails, but exploring new terrain can make a ride feel like a whole new adventure. Haven’t tried that trail you keep hearing about? Give it a shot! Or, if you’re not in the mood for exploring, try linking your favorite trails together in a different way. It’ll add some variety and spice up your routine. I have suggested routes on my strava page if you wanna see what I'm riding and my suggested routes.

4. Plan a Post-Ride Hangout

End the ride on a high note by planning something fun for after you’re done. Whether it’s grabbing a burger at your favorite spot, hitting a local brewery, or just chilling at the trailhead with a cooler, having a post-ride ritual adds a little something extra to look forward to. Plus, it’s a great way to swap stories and compare who took the best (or worst) line on that last descent.

5. Allow Yourself to Play Again

Not every ride has to be about setting a personal record or crushing every climb. What if you just let yourself play? Try bunny-hopping over rocks, taking different lines just to see what happens, or tossing in a little wheelie for fun. Laugh a little more and don’t be afraid to get a bit silly—there’s pure joy in just having fun on your bike. It’s easy to get caught up in goals and progress, but don’t forget the reason you started riding in the first place: because it’s a blast!

Get Out and Enjoy It While You Can

The cold days are closing in, and daylight savings is about to steal a little bit of our riding time. So, get out there and make the most of it while you still can! Whether you're hitting up your favorite trails, discovering new routes, or just playing around on your bike, now’s the time to soak up the last of the season’s warmth. Don’t wait—grab your bike, call up some friends, and go find some fun on the trails.

Forever two wheels.
